kidney disease study

At Cat Care Center, we are proud to participate in the REVERSE Study, a clinical trial evaluating a potential new treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in cats. If your cat has been diagnosed with CKD, this study may offer free medical care while contributing to advancements in feline medicine.

What is the REVERSE study?

9-month clinical trial testing a new medication to determine if it can slow the progression of CKD in cats.

What this means for your cat:

  • Free physical exams, bloodwork, urinalysis, and imaging
  • Free study medication
  • Opportunity to help future cats with CKD

This study is completely voluntary, and there are no costs to participate!

Which cats can participate?

We know how much you love your cats, and we understand that not every cat will meet the study’s strict criteria – this is the hardest part for us, too. These guidelines are essential to ensure meaningful results. If your cat isn’t eligible, we’re still here to support you in their kidney health journey in any way that we can.

To be eligible, cats must meet the following criteria, including but not limited to:

  • Under 15 years old
  • Diagnosed with IRIS Stage II or III CKD
  • Weigh at least 4.85 lbs (2.2 kg)
  • Otherwise healthy (no diabetes, etc.)
  • Able to take oral medication
  • Male or spayed female

If you’re unsure whether your cat qualifies, our team can help determine eligibility.

Give us a call and we'd be happy to answer any questions!

What's involved?

Participating in the study requires:

  • Six clinic visits over 9 months
  • Weekly oral medication
  • Quality-of-life questionnaires completed by owners
  • Regular checkups and monitoring at no cost

All study-related medical care is completely free!

Why should you participate?

  • Access to advanced veterinary care at no cost
  • Contribute to research that could benefit thousands of cats
  • Help your cat while supporting the future of feline medicine

CKD is a leading cause of illness in older cats. Your participation can help develop better treatment options for cats everywhere.
